Adidas - the classic that never dies
Who would have thought that back in 1949 when 2 brothers parted ways a fashion and sportswear powerhouse would have been born? (Not to mention too that one of brothers went on to begin Puma, a rival to Adidas).
Adidas today is one of, if not the most, influential brands ever. It doesn’t matter if you were born in the 60s or the 2000s everyone knows and loves Adidas.
Building the Foundations
The brand 3 Stripes has not always been so clear. It wasn’t until the mid 1990s that the company decided to divide into 3 areas: Adidas Performance, Adidas Originals and Style Essentials. The originals trefoil logo is still apparent in the brand, and signifies the Originals collection. This logo only now appears on their heritage products.
Teenagers wear them, your dad wears them and even your grandad may?
The Adidas footwear collection has been synonymous with all generations. The music artists of the 80s with Run DMC to the Football Casuals era were repping a fresh pair of Forest Hills with your Sergio track jacket - just the norm for a Saturday down the boozer.
You certainly can’t forget these silhouettes, either, which are still selling millions of pairs today:
- Forest Hill
- Stan Smith’s
Probably the most famous of this list is the Superstar.
Originally released in 1969 as a basketball shoe, it was soon adopted by Hip Hop Group Run DMC as their signature shoe.
Wearing it without laces, tongues up, and Superstar Tracksuits on, they revolutionised this shoe.
In 2005 they celebrated 35 years of this iconic style, collaborating with various music artists to celebrate its heritage.
The classics collection that will never disappear.
In more recent times the brand has enlisted the help of many a superstar.
From Pharrell Williams to Jeremy Scott, to most notably Kanye West with his own Yeezy brand. These have all kept the brand at the forefront of fashion, and put them firmly in the present day.
However one thing that is for certain - no matter the age of the brand or the age of the person - the Adidas Originals brand, will live on. In 20-30 years’ time, people will still be wearing the Gazelles, the Stan Smiths and even the Forest Hills.
These are the classics that will never die.
